Welcome to the new home of Azure & Ochre. I’m Laurel, an accomplished metalsmith and textile artist with a new found passion for ceramics. Azure & ochre jewelry is inspired by my metal and textile work, and includes lots of color, textures, patterns and wobbly forms. That work can be found at, https://www.laurelnathanson.com.
These pieces made from porcelain as well as a stoneware clay called B mix. I use beads from my ever expanding stash, lots of texture and colorful glazes. All pieces are one of a kind, but if you see a sold out piece you like, or want a custom piece, feel free to reach out to me.
And…the planet is in peril these days. As i now work so directly with literal earth, I have become even more acutely aware of how My materials are reliant on this amazing sphere, we are all reliant on her and we owe her for her generosity, for taking care of us. So, let’s do what we can to take care of her. Vote for people who will protect her, grow your own food, ride a bike, up-cycle your clothes, believe in science, turn off the lights, eat less meat, hit the streets in peaceful resistance…
During these are dark days, color uplifts me, creating keeps me sane, and sharing this work makes me feel connected.
